Formatting, tips & tricks etc for using the babble boards
Despite a lot of the formatting discussed here being rendered obsolete by the new elbbab®, this was a fun thread. I also had a lot of trouble finding it in the past.
I guess it doesn't matter a lot that a mod decided to swoop in and shut it down, after a long dormant period, but it would be nice to keep alive as a reference.
I appreciate keeping the original buggy ASCII title. It comforts me like a brown cotton-poly suit with blue windowpanes.
Actually, as M. Spector once pointed out, the real thread looked more like [url=http://archive.rabble.ca/babble/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic&f=15&t=0006....
cant post without disabling rich text, been going on for a while.

Me, too. WTF???
Now I can post almost okay, but it took about four tries last night before it registered. I had to re-write a whole post.
And I can't post links. In fact, when I try to, it freezes.
And if I edit a post, it won't save unless I disable rich-text first.
WTF???
Does this happen regularly, Wilf? Are you using a computer or a handheld device/tablet? I'm assuming the former, since you appear to be using IE9, right? This is very frustrating, I know. I can only say that there is supposed to be an upgrade in place very soon that will hopefully eliminate many of these problems. (and create a great deal of new ones...)

Yes, regularly. (I had to disable rich-text before I could type this.) Desktop. IE9.
Gross. I'll send the tech guy a note and see if it's something we can fix quickly.
It's frustrating Catchfire, and could explain a lack of posts. So many times I forget and write a post and then I get the error message and give up. It helps explain my lack of posting.
Okay, it fooled me. This time it let me type (but not post a link, and I can't put the cursor where I want, have to run it back and forth). Then when I tried to post, it wiped the post. I retyped it, saved it and clicked on "disable rich-text." Didn't disable. Tried to post anyway. It posted!
If this has been a problem for only a couple of months, did it start when IE9 was released in March? That is, has IE9 ever worked properly with babble?
That sounds about right Catchfire. Posting in Firefox now. Why didn't I think of this earlier? doh.
It is made by Microsoft and there are alternatives which means two things:
1) I won't use it unless I have to (some sites are designed exclusively for that browser)
2) I would not know how screwed up it is due to irregular use but it is safe to say if made by MS it won't work well (and probably spies on you).
