Hey Merowe. The CF doesn't use DU weapons. There are systems with DU in them and only used as a counterweight. For example the CT114, the plane the Snowbirds fly, uses DU counterweights in the rudder and elevator.
From what I've read it's nasty stuff, both short term and long term. It's main use in weapons is as a penetrator in tank shells, so that's the short term. The long term comes from breathing in the dust. Gulf War Syndrome is thought to originate in part from exposure to DU. Then it gets into the food chain and contaminates the people living in the area, so it's similar to Fukushima.

Canada's military doesn't use DU weapons, nuclear weapons, chemical weapons, land mines, biological weapons, dum dum rounds, white phosphorus, or exotics (sonic, microwave, etc). All of the above are used (or at least owned) by various NATO nations as well as Russia, Israel, Pakistan, China, India, North Korea, and others.

The New York Times is to be commended for continuing its reportage from Libya. From what I've been reading the country is gleefully chaotic, but like the New Year's Day 3PM realization that the party's over, its people are starting to rebuild a society.

Well that does it! I can't vote for a party that voted for a no-fly zone, either. Better keep the troops in the Stan another 10 years, or whenever Uncle Sam instructs our Libertories to remove them. A pair of proven vicious toadie parties in-hand is certainly worth more than one no-fly zone at a time when Gadaffi announced to the world that he ordered his military to show no mercy for Libyans. And even though the Socialist International refused to back Gadaffi themselves.
Better safe than sorry I suppose. Good call.

Any 'Socialist International' that would have the NDP as a member is more International Socialist than Socialist International in any case - hardly a credible citation. Didn't they attempt to pitch/ditch the last vestiges of their 'socialism' last convention? Just like they previously ditched their anti-NATO position? NDP=No Difference Party. The problem with socialist movements today is that they are still under siege by capitalists and the international banking cabal. Socialists in very many countries have found that operating sovereign countries independently of marauding interanational capital is too difficult to manage on their own. The whole notion of socialism in one country has been found wanting since the former USSR and Yugoslavia succumbed to decades of relentless trade embargos and vicious dirty wars. Vietnamese communists were forced down the capital road by the late 1990s. These were not democratic decisions by the people so much as they were "forced errors" by leftist leaders with few choices. Medieval sieges, military threats and political interference by the west and its powerful multinational corporations still occurs today in this time of colder war.
Moamar Gaddafi co-operated with the CIA on torture. He was no socialist. He was an Arab nationalist. And like some people we know, the imperialist CIA, MI6, DGSE etc have generally never discerned or discriminated between the two very different political movements when breaking international laws to subvert and undermine both. They say that when you swim with sharks and piranhas, chances are you'll be bitten. Lesson learned: If you play with the Gladio mafia, the demands made of you and payoffs eventually become too difficult to manage.
And we know you'll still promote the NDP as usual.

I appreciate these links that NDPP provides us. I'm sceptical of Thierry Meysan though. He's behind (two bestsellers) the idea that an airliner did'nt hit the Pentagon. Is he a CIA agent (agent provocateur) ? To completely discredit the humanitarian (Responsibilty to Protect) motives behind Sarkozy and NATO's intervention in Libya is to accuse Bob Ray, Lloyd Axworthy, the NDP etc. of naivity or insincerity. They and others are left-leaning true believers, like Wilson and Roosevelt and often finally instrumental in deciding to go to war. "Intervention" is as Canadian as maple syrup which is why I hope someday a non-interventionist (isolationist) Republican may become Emperor.
