I don't consider the US to meet the criteria required to be considered a democracy, mostly because they have a two-party system that has intrenched the Democrats/Republicans as their ruling party.

Ambassador, the Israeli Prime Minister and the U.S. Special Representative for Syria at their words, it would appear that the Washington Establishment and its Israeli manipulators have narrowed the options for dealing with Syria and its regional supporter Iran to either war or war. Judging by how Assad's regime has been able to bomb and gas people, I would say that the Syrian regime has the right to fight all sorts of people within Syria including terrorists. It seems to me that Assad's dictatorial regime and his father's dictatorial regime have always been able to very aggressively "defend" themselves, well before the outbreak of the recent civil war. I don't think Assad's regime would have lost control over most of Syria without the opposition of a large portion of the Syrian population. I think if Syrians supported Assad, most of his country would not have fallen into the hands of Syrian Sunni rebels and his country would not have been susceptible to interference from Sunni terrorists from outside of Syria. Unfortunately, Assad senior and junior have not governed in the interest of most Syrians and this has led to a deep schism within Syria society that has led to a civil war and to 1/3rd of the country's population becoming refugees. I think if a fair Syrian election were held, Assad would not stand a chance of continuing on with his regime. I think that's why he, and his father before him, have never held fair elections.
