I have read a few theories on this but the controlled demolition ones persist.

One of the problems is that some of the other theories also imply issues some people would not want to see the light of day. The article includes the issue of the role of fire retardent materials plays. The BBC did a film about this showing footage from the World Trade structures showing that the fire retardent material was insufficient even missing in places and reports had been written about this.

With high heats, and a lack of protection, steel conducts heat faster than the other building materials so the points of failure could be below the rest of the collapse. As well the structure will give before the rest of the cladding so puffs of material coming out below the collapse is not as strange is one might think.

In any case I am not buying the conspiracy theory as expressed but I do think the buildings had defects in maintenance -- maybe even construction -- which might explain why there is a preference to let the more outlandish conspiracy theories persist. If you have theories that persist that are outlandish there is less chance that the truth will be discovered and less credibility to the idea of something being hidden.

So there is a possibility of a coverup that is less wild than the one being promoted but still with an incentive to hide it and missdirect.

It's interesting enough, I suppose, and it's true that it's refreshingly non-conspiratorial. But it's not as though the authors are just neutral, curious scientists.

I think it's an admittedly clever, two-part strategy. First, break out and focus on just the "science" part. Then, if you can convince people that it could only have been a controlled demolition, the k00Kiness can resume in earnest, and the blame can be placed on Rummy, the Mossad, and the Bilderberg group as before.

Let's forever this nonsense about the physical collapse of the WTC buildings

Americans it appears think the big issue about 9/11 is that the 2 agencies mandated with the task to protect Americans, the CIA and the FBI were not working together, and that CIA warnings to the White House, to S Rice and G Bush about al Queda were ignored, not because they knew ahead of time about the attacks, but because they wee getting warnings every day, something like the warnings prior to Pearl Harbour, and that the CIA knew that there were 2 terrorists who eventually flew on those planes and the CIA knew they were in the USA but did not inform the FBI who would have rounded them up, because of communication breakdown between the 2 agencies, and also it was the CIA who told Bush Iraq had weapons of mass destruction

Free discussion of ideas and views, even if unpopular, should be at least endured not suppressed. 'Al Qaeda's White Helmet humanitarians deserve Nobel Peace Prize says NDP', 'Julian Assange is nothing but an odious sex criminal choosing to evade justice in the Ecuadorean Embassy' was another.

Obviously some conspiracy theories are more welcome than others and unfortunately might makes right is increasingly the means used to sort which is which. Always for the common good, of course.

Remembering 9/11 and the lone vote against the war on terror

Barbara Lee's scribbled words resounded through the House chamber:

"However difficult this vote may be, some of us must urge the use of restraint. Our country is in a state of mourning…Let's just pause, just for a minute, and think through the implications of our actions today so that this does not spiral out of control."

Spiral it did. Brown University's Watson Institute estimates that at least 801,000 people have been killed by direct, post-9/11 war violence in Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, Yemen, and Pakistan, with civilians accounting for close to half that number. Thousands of U.S. troops and contractors have been killed and injured, with a price tag for U.S. taxpayers the Institute estimates will reach well over $8 trillion.

In Turning Point, a sweeping new five-part documentary about the U.S. response to 9/11, Congressmember Lee reflects on that Authorization for Use of Military Force, or AUMF, that she alone opposed in Congress: "It's been used over 41 times, in about 19 countries not related at all to 9/11…It's been used all over the world as the basis to use force, and to bomb and engage in military operations. That is unconstitutional. It sets the stage for perpetual war."

Congressmember Lee courageously voted no against the AUMF twenty years ago, as Ground Zero smoldered along with the wreckage at the Pentagon and of Flight 93 in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, which crashed as passengers and crew fought that plane's hijackers. After the vote, Lee immediately began receiving death threats, and being called a traitor and un-American. But she got other responses as well: "Actually, 40 per cent of those 60,000 communications were very positive. Bishop Tutu, Coretta Scott King, people from all around the world sent some very positive messages to me."

At the time, Barbara Lee was one of the newest members of Congress, and one of the few African American women to hold office in either the House or Senate. When asked on Democracy Now! where she got the courage to take that difficult stand, she said, "I am a Black woman in America."

The defense of the Bush administration's crimes by the US media establishment is aimed not only at the past but at the future.

The endless talk of 'unity' comes as the US is more divided by class then at any point in postwar history. The financial oligarchy has used the COVID-19 pandemic to vastly enrich itself, while workers have been forced to work in unsafe conditions, subjected to mass death and economic dislocation. Seeing itself beset by political opposition, the US ruling class seeks 'unity' by banishing criticism or examination, no matter how minor of its past crimes.

But no matter how the American media and political establishment attempts to circle the wagons, the crimes committed in the name of the 'war on terror' will have massive consequences. They have torn the mask off American democracy and American capitalism, exposing it as a ruthless dictatorship of the financial oligarchy..."
