NDP MP Sana Hassainia quits party over position on Israel-Palestine conflict

Protecting the Circle: Aboriginal Men Ending Violence Against Women

A written collection of submitted works by Aboriginal men

Excerpt:

I believe; Now is the time for our men to reflect, to examine, and to question our current attitudes, our current actions, and our conduct towards our women. Do these things adhere and align with the fundamental and foundational teachings at the core of who we are, in the
character of those that came before, and at the cultural heart of that we claim such "Native Pride"?

Federal government eliminates funding for First Nations University of Canada

I understand that they have stated that governance and accountability were the reasons but this seems extreme. The Sask. government already cut provincial funding a couple days ago.

This school (Attached to the University of Regina) provides many programs particularly in health and education- including a nursing school. Given the health crisis in First Nations communities, I am shocked by this decision. As well this is an institution with not only a functional purpose but also an extremely valuable symbolic one. In addition Aboriginal communities are younger than the national average and an extremely important part of Canada's national future.

Liberal MP defection pool

The Cons are feeding the media with rumours that as many as three Liberal MPs are preparing to cross the floor.

The only name mentioned in media accounts is that of Ruby Dhalla, who of course denies that she is in talks.

Any other suggestions of MPs to watch?

Criteria might include

- right wing views or no firm views on anything (a fairly large group)

- not going anywhere in the Liberal Party (another fairly large group)

- able to (or at least think they are able to) win their seat again as a Conservative

- looking for a Senate appointment or other non-working position

Let the speculating begin.

Winnipeg children seized from neo-Nazi parents - part 2

[quote]

The first social worker to interview the girl told court Monday she was alarmed to hear the child describe killing members of minorities in cold, matter-of-fact terms.

“She said you would whip black people with a ball and chain and they die,” testified the social worker. [...]

In testimony Monday, the social worker said that, for 45 minutes, she grilled the girl about her home life and the ink covering her body. “She said the meaning of [the swastika] is that black people don't belong,” the social worker said. “She told me that we have to protect white kids from, quote-unquote, niggers.”
