No. There are no indications that the NDP are prepared to make significant gains. The best we could hope for would be another Liberal minority and that would be the most likely outcome. The Conservative brand is tied too tightly to oil and outdated views to make much progress. Lower taxes are ever popular but government services are even more popular. The more threatened people feel the more they turn to government, not private enterprise, for solutions. The new "Conservative" "every man for themselves" message doesn't fly well when things are going south. But, they still have a solid base so may be able to hold Trudeau to a minority.
At this point the federal NDP is better off holding steady while the KXL, TM and Gaslink battles come to a head. It might be an opportunity to get some concessions from the Liberals but even that is a long shot. The Liberals are pretty confident of staying in power and they are probably right for the moment.
Right now, if an election were to be held it would result in a Conservative majority because of the blockades. Regardless of the merits of the position, public support is not behind the blockades, and people are still angry about things like train travel and traffic disruptions. The Conservative message about maintaining order, however abhorrent we find it, will resonate with the voting public.
The NDP and BQ don't want another election so MacKay won't get his wish. The next election will likely happen as scheduled in October 2023 or in October 2022 if the provincial Liberals win the Ontario provincial election in June 2022 during their honeymoon phase.
It's one thing to expect an early election when a new prime minister takes office part way through a parliamentary terms-but what possible argument would there be to have a snap election just because a new opposition leader is selected?
Well so Conservatives want new elections when they are leading in the polls. Surprise!!!!
Thing is often these polls don't mean they will win but you live the dream.
I think it is bravado because they know the Liberals will be propped up by the BQ.
There is growing pressure within the Conservative Party to put off the leadership race because of the Corona virus. In addition, the virus crisis would likely make any party pushing for an election this year lose popularity.
There is growing pressure on the Conservative party to delay its leadership race as two of the four candidates on the final ballot have now said it’s not right to be campaigning while Canada is seized by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Erin O’Toole, considered to be one of two front-runners in the race, released a video on Sunday calling for the race to be delayed.
“I’m asking the leadership committee of the Conservative Party of Canada to delay the Conservative leadership contest to ensure that all time and resources of our Conservative caucus and our grassroots members can be focused on helping our constituents and the needs of our communities in the fight against COVID-19,” O’Toole said in the video.
However, as of Sunday afternoon the party says its position hasn’t changed and that the race can proceed as scheduled . The party says it is closely monitoring the situation and will keep assessing whether the race can continue.
Conservatives are to choose a successor to Andrew Scheer at a convention in Toronto on June 27.

Peter MacKay does not look too good right now --

Peter MacKay's director of communications Julie Vaux just told me she quit the campaign a week ago because she felt it was inappropriate to be campaigning during COVID-19.

I didn't think he could go lower than lying about merging with the Canadian Alliance the last time he ran for leadership of a major political party. I was wrong.
Peter MacKay is now saying "Canada can't wait" is urging the Conservative Party NOT to postpone or slow down the campaign - but speed it up! Just do the vote as soon as possible so the Conservatives can have an official leader to hold the government to account during this crisis

Of course he's saying that. If the leadership election is delayed, whatever lead he still has will vanish.
It's probably going to vanish faster now. So far most politicians have managed to stay non-partisan. The time will come to attack Trudeau but now isn't it. There are Conservative parliamentarians. Scheer isn't a ghost.
Peter MacKay just sent out another tweet this AM saying the Conservative Party should be preparing for for an election.

He is going to lose support over it. The election is scheduled for June 27th and now is not the time for discussing it for any reason other than postponement. He is tone deaf. I predict if he wins the leadership he will lose the election.
I just don't see what Peter MacKay rush is to do this - If he wins the leadership he could be without an income for sometime as he would have to resign for all the boards he sits on and shut down his law practice
A better use of his time would be to try and shore up support within the Conservative Party, as he is not the odds on favorite among the base, despite what the media is telling the wider electorate. He is not well liked at all.
Chris Selley, National Post:
At this point the CPC needs to save itself from MacKay, and MacKay from himself. This is unhinged, self-harming behaviour.
Emily Taman and Michael Spratt did an episode on Peter MacKay on their podcast, The Docket on March 5, 2020, episode 102.
They give compelling reasons why he is not a good choice for the leadership.
